10 Tips for Choosing a Reliable Contractor

You've done your homework, and you're ready to get started on that next big project. Now it's time to call the contractor. Here are a few tips from Blue Army Handyman that will help you find a reputable, reliable contractor to perform the work.

  1. Insist that contractors provide written
    estimates on company letterhead.
Blue Army: All contracts are all inclusive and itemized.
  2. Ask contractors to provide written
    guarantees.
Blue Army: See Customer's Limited Warranty / Guarantee web page.
  3. Find someone else if a contractor insists on cash payment(s).                                     Blue Army: Checks and all major credit cards are acceptable forms of payment.
  4. Are the contractor's licenses and
    registrations valid?
Blue Army: We hold licenses in all three jurisdictions.
  5. Did the contractor offer you a legitimate business card?                                        Blue Army: Always!
  6. Ask for proof of third-party property and injury insurance including bonding.                                     Blue Army: Insurance and bonding documents are offered with all written estimates.
  7. Check to see if the contractor is registered with the Better Business Bureau.             Blue Army: Has maintained an "A" rating since inception.
  8. Ask for proof of membership in local Home Builders Associations or chambers of Commerce.                                          Blue Army: See bottom of Home Page.
  9. How long has the contractor been in business?                                                   Blue ArmyEstablished in 2005, as a woman/family owned company with 32 years of construction experience.
